Gospel Context

The Gospels preserve indispensable evidence, but they are not neutral transcripts. Each author arranges inherited traditions for a community with theological and social concerns. Reading the disputes in Jewish context sharpens rather than softens them: Sabbath, purity, authority, mercy, and Torah interpretation mattered precisely because the participants shared so much.
